Last few weeks to see Benjamin Williamsons 'Lobster buoys as art
Dear friends
I will be keeping the gallery open this week on Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 so you have more times to see the Lobster Buoys as Art show before it leaves. If these hours don’t work please call and I’ll be happy to come and open for you when its convenient for us both.
The Hamsa (middle eastern amulet of protection) making play day I am offering at The Gallery is still on for September 18th but the time is changed to 10-12.

A note from Cynthia Ahlstrin who is teaching 3 book making classes this fall at The Gallery
“Hello to all!
Hope you are well and have had a great summer! I am looking forward to the fall and would like to announce that I will be running three individual workshops on bookmaking and papermaking at The Gallery in Readfield in September, October and November. Below are all the details for the first workshop coming right up in September, followed by descriptions of the next two workshops later in the fall.
First Workshop: Layered Papermaking
Come one come all for a completely different approach to papermaking on Saturday, September 21st at the Gallery in Readfield!! In this workshop, artist Cynthia Ahlstrin will be teaching students the process of hand layering paper to create beautiful sheets of translucent paper with small inclusions in between the layers. This method of papermaking is often used in book arts, altered books, collage and in other creative endeavors where a more durable translucent paper is preferred. This process is a great way to incorporate all your small scraps of paper, book text, cloth, thread, lace, etc. right into your piece. You will love the results!
Note: All working materials will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own inclusion such as scraps of lace, yarn, paper, thread, book pages, etc. if you have them “hanging around”. Each student will be making several sheets of layered paper.
Cost of Class: $70.00
Date of Class: Saturday, September 21, 2024
Time: 1:00PM – 5:00PM
Maximum Number of Students: 8
Minimum Number of Students: 5
Contact Information: Please email me directly at cynthiaahlstrin@gmail.com to sign up for this class
Note: Please do not contact Camille at The Gallery as she is leaving the coordination of this class up to me. Thank you!

Second Workshop: Buttonhole Bindings
The workshop for this very special book form will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 1:00PM – 5:00PM. This form works with multiple sections (called signatures) sewn into the cover in such a way that it allows the pages to open in a fully flat position. Perfect for journals or for a small traveling sketchbook. The cost of this workshop will be $75.00. No previous bookmaking or sewing experience is needed. More specific details about this workshop will be sent in a separate email later in September.
Third Workshop: Star Book and a Spiral Book
I will be teaching this last workshop on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 1:00PM – 5:00PM. The Star book form is a great introduction to learning how to work in visual layers. It is also a book form that is the beginning of understanding pop-up books. Students will also learn a spiral book form that is thought of as a “toy” book. The cost of this class will be $75.00. No previous bookmaking experience is needed. More specific details about this workshop will be sent in a separate email later in September. (Please note this workshop might run a few minutes longer).
Please contact me if you would like to sign up for any or all of the workshops mentioned above. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or by text at the contact number listed below. As always, if you know anyone that might enjoy these workshops, by all means, spread the word!
Thank you very much and I look forward to seeing you throughout the fall!
Best regards,
Cynthia Ahlstrin
